La Gaceta de Tucumán
La Gaceta de Tucumán is the third broadest circulation newspaper in the country and the most popular in the interior of Argentina.
It was founded in 1912 by Alberto García Hamilton, after he had worked in provincial and national media for several years. In 1929 he purchased a building and a printing press. In 1936 he bought printing press HOE, able to print 100,000 issues per hour, thus turning La Gaceta into the most important newspaper in the interior of the country. In 1937 he expanded the company’s influence by founding LV 12 Radio Aconquija, one of the leading radio stations in Tucumán still today.
During the last military dictatorship and in the months ahead of the 1976 coup, the newspaper’s authorities backed the illegal repression carried out by the Army against armed groups.
In 1995 the company changed the design of its paper in its entirety by adding color to it. This endeavor was led by Mario García, one of the most renowned experts in the industry. As a result, the newspaper received several international awards.
Since 1997, La Gaceta has had a digital newspaper. In 2014 it launched a second digital newspaper in the province of Salta.
In 2018 the media received 100% of Tucumán’s official advertising for print media.
