La Voz del Interior
La Voz del Interior is the second broadest circulation newspaper in the interior of Argentina, after La Gaceta de Tucumán.
It was first published in 1904. Its owners’ goal was to turn it into a national newspaper. Businessman Silvestre Rafael Remonda partnered with journalist Juan Dionisio Naso, and they began to publish a 6-page newspaper. Overtime, the newspaper became more popular, and the company moved to a new building in 1933. In 1975 a bomb went off in the newspaper’s printing press area. The bomb was allegedly placed by Alianza Anticomunista Argentina (AAA), a far-right terrorist group.
In 1983 the newspaper moved its printing presses to a new building. In 2000 a new building, which comprised all the media areas, was opened. The newspaper proudly declared that it is “the third largest newspaper in Argentina in terms of advertising funds.”
In 2018 the Argentinian Government invested $18.9 million of advertising in print media in Córdoba. La Voz received funds worth $15,244,412, that is, 80% of the total. Since 1998, it is controlled by Compañía Inversora de Medios de Comunicación (CIMECO), a company founded by Clarín, La Nacion and Grupo Vocento from Spain, which edits regional newspapers in Spain. The company also purchased newspaper Los Andes from Mendoza. Their goal was to purchase the six leading newspapers in the interior of Argentina to compete with the group Vila-Manzano. However, an economic crisis ended up with the plan: in 2007, the Spanish investors left Argentina, and in April 2008 Clarín purchased La Nacion’s stock in both newspapers. The Remonda and the Calle families kept a small portion of their respective stock.
