Media Ownership
The Argentine media market has a diversity of owners in terms of numbers, but few dominate the largest portion of the market, both in audiences and in number of media outles. Of the 23 groups in this study, The Clarín Group is the dominant of the market with a large number of television channels, radio stations and newspapers. Still, Viacom, of North American capitals, is the most relevant group in the television market. Grupo América and Grupo Indalo, the most important and diversified in terms of participation in other industries.
The 33 owners of these companies are, with only one exception, men. Of theme, there are only a few with no interests in other economic branches outside of the communication industry. Telecommunications, construction, energy and finance are the economic sectors where the strongest men of the Argentine media system are most present.
