Cadena 3
Grupo Radiodifusora del Centro, better known as Cadena 3, was created in 1990 as part of the privatization process led by former President Carlos Menem. Radio station LV3 Radio Córdoba was awarded to the company Radiodifusora del Centro. It then became Cadena 3 and started an expansion process, first at the provincial level and then across the country, that positioned it as the most important federal radio network in Argentina. In 1999, days before leaving office, once again Menem awarded licenses to Radiodifusora del Centro in different parts of the country (in total, six of them are currently active).
It leads the three most popular stations in the province of Córdoba (Cadena 3, FM Popular and FM Córdoba) and a network of content-producing repeaters made up of 33 radio stations, including group-owned stations and partners. It is the only radio network that, without having been established in Buenos Aires, owns a station in the country’s capital city.
Its controlling shareholder, Gustavo Defilippi, is an important businessman from Cordoba who started out in the financial sector. The other two shareholders are the station’s star journalists: Mario Pereyra and José Vargas, each of whom owns 32% of shares.
