Grupo Octubre

Grupo Octubre was created by Víctor Santa María in his capacity of Secretary General of the Single Trade Union of Concierges (SUTERH), which he presides over. It is managed by Fundación Octubre de Trabajadores de Edificios (Octubre Foundation of Concierges), created in 1991.

The foundation starting to work with a focus on education and cultural management. In 2002 it created Instituto Superior de Octubre (ISO), a post-secondary school, and in 2013, the Universidad Metropolitana para la Educación y el Trabajo (UMET). It started to operate in the media sector in 2005, when the magazine Caras y Caretas was relaunched with Santa María as Editor-In-Chief and historian Felipe Pigna as Director. A year later, the Centro Cultural Caras y Caretas was established. In 2008 the group received the license for radio signal AM 750, strategically located between Radio Mitre and Radio 10, and two years later its programming was presented. It became stronger as a multimedia group when it purchased the newspaper Página 12 in 2016. Since then, it has not ceased to expand.
