Radio Continental

Radio Continental started to operate as such1969. It had been previously known as AM Radio Porteña. It was one of the few private radio stations that could operate during the last military dictatorship in Argentina (1976–1983). The radio belongs to Grupo PRISA since 2004. This transnational multimedia group of Spanish capitals is one of the most relevant radio players in Spain and Latin America (in Spain it owns network Cadena SER).

Radio Continental's programming is mainly informative, though it is undergoing a period of change after the departure of two of its main figures: Víctor Hugo Morales (in 2015) and Magdalena Ruiz Guiñazú (in 2014). This process led to a fall in their audience levels and now it is the fifth most popular AM radio station. The radio’s hosts have lots of media experience and are, in general, men over 50 years old.

Since 2015, Grupo PRISA and Grupo Albavisión (of Mexican and American capitals) have been merging their operations in Latin America. This restructuring has resulted in several changes in PRISA’s radio stations in Argentina, Continental and Los 40 (FM 105.5), and Albavisión’s radio stations in Argentina, RQP (FM 104.3), Mucha Radio (FM 97.1), Aspen (FM 102.3) and Arpeggio (FM 88.5). Most of the changes took place in the management of the stations, with the merger of the two group’s commercial or digital departments.
